Drive and steering wheels
Drive and steering wheels
Understanding the function of a drive/steer wheel is fairly straightforward. It’s a motorised wheel that can also be used to steer your vehicle.
Instead of two drive wheels that you turn at different speeds to steer your vehicle, it’s a single wheel that can be operated by a tiller, a cable control or a motorised steering control to steer the vehicle. In fact, the wheel is linked to an independent steering system or is part of a complete assembly.
This type of wheel is widely used with drawbar head kinematics or any other application where a single wheel provides the steering and the others are ‘follower’ wheels.
There is a wide variety of drive and steer wheels. The motor can be positioned vertically or horizontally in relation to the wheel, depending on the space you have on your vehicle.
To help you use a drive/steer wheel, we’ll ask you the type of control you want to use, the weight of your vehicle and the maximum speed you want to reach. With these parameters, we’ll be able to guide you towards the right product, thanks to our network of partners.
