Symeo radars
Positioning and safety in industrial environments
In modern industrial facilities, controlling the movement of mobile equipment has become a major challenge in terms of performance, safety and machine availability.
SYMEO industrial radars provide a reliable and durable solution to positioning and collision prevention issues, even in the most demanding environments.
Unlike optical technologies, which are sensitive to dust, vibrations and weather conditions, SYMEO radars provide stable and continuous measurement, regardless of operating conditions.

Symeo Radar: For which applications?
Depending on the desired objective, SYMEO radars can be used on their own or integrated into more advanced architectures. The three applications below cover most of the requirements encountered on overhead travelling cranes and industrial mobile systems.

1. Simple positioning of overhead crane
When the primary concern is to know the exact position of a bridge along its axis of movement, a simple architecture can be implemented.
Typical configuration
- 1 fixed radar (wall or structure)
- 1 mobile radar (overhead crane)
Objective
- Measure the absolute position of the bridge on the X axis
- Transmit reliable information that can be used by the PLC
Benefits
- Elimination of mechanical sensors and measuring rules
- Increased reliability over time
- Rapid commissioning
2. Anti-collision system for overhead travelling cranes
When several overhead travelling cranes or mobile equipment are operating on the same track, the priority becomes the safety of the installations and operators.
Typical configuration
1 radar installed on each deck or moving part
Objective
- Measure the distance between two bridges in real time
- Automatically trigger slowdown zones or emergency stops
Benefits
- Drastic reduction in collision risk
- Protection of structures, loads and people
- Operation independent of visibility or lighting conditions

3. Combined solution: Positioning + Anti-collision
In many cases, the requirement is not limited to a single function. It is therefore appropriate to combine positioning and anti-collision within the same system.
Typical configuration
This is a common and feasible configuration, particularly with the 1D24 radar.
Objective
- Create L-shaped or E-shaped assemblies
- Measure multiple positions (bridge and carriage)
- Centralise data via a single collection point
Benefits
A more compact, scalable and economical architecture, without compromising on safety or precision.
A technology particularly suited to harsh environments
The choice of technology is strongly influenced by the operating environment. This is where SYMEO radar clearly stands out.
SYMEO radars are perfectly suited to environments where optical solutions reach their limits:
- Steelworks
- Ports and logistics terminals
- Sorting centres and waste facilities
- Dusty, vibrating or weather-exposed environments
